Apr 10, 2025

The International Association for Quality Assurance in Pre-Tertiary and Higher Education (QAHE) is excited to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Brazilian Association for Distance Education (ABED). This strategic partnership aims to enhance the standards of distance education and promote collaborative efforts between the two organizations.

Founded in 1995, ABED is a non-profit learned society that has played a pivotal role in the development of open, flexible, and distance learning in Brazil. The association was established by a group of academics dedicated to advancing distance education and new learning technologies. ABED's mission is to stimulate the practice and development of distance education projects across various sectors while ensuring the highest quality of services for students, educators, institutions, and companies involved in this field.

Through this MOU, QAHE and ABED will collaborate to share best practices, resources, and expertise to support the growth and quality of distance education. This partnership will also provide opportunities for joint conferences, seminars, and educational courses, further enriching the learning experiences of educators and students alike.

ABED is affiliated with several international organizations, including the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) and the OpenCourseWare Consortium, which underscores its commitment to global collaboration in the field of education. Additionally, ABED publishes the "Brazilian Journal of Open and Distance Learning," a trilingual platform that features research, news, and resources pertinent to open and distance learning.

The signing of this MOU marks a significant milestone for both QAHE and ABED, as they work together to address the challenges and opportunities in the evolving landscape of education. This collaboration is not only a step towards enhancing educational standards but also a commitment to fostering a more inclusive and accessible learning environment for all.
