In a significant development for occupational safety and health (OSH) in Nigeria, the Occupational Safety and Health Association United Kingdom (OSHAssociation) has joined forces with the International Association for Quality Assurance in Pre-Tertiary & Higher Education (QAHE). This partnership aims to enhance OSH standards through joint initiatives and programmatic accreditation, emphasizing the critical role of QAHE in ensuring institutional accreditation, accreditation in education, and training accreditation.
Former Minister of Interior, Senator Abba Moro, was recently honored with the prestigious Fellowship of OSHAssociation at Excel London. Recognizing the urgent need to address the alarming rate of fatalities and injuries in Nigeria's industrial sector, Senator Moro highlighted the significance of robust laws and government sanctions to tackle these challenges effectively.
As a dedicated Fellow of OSHAssociation, Senator Moro brings his wealth of experience as the former Minister of Interior, overseeing agencies such as the Federal Fire Service in Nigeria. He commended OSHAssociation's advocacy efforts in Nigeria and globally, expressing confidence that their initiatives will significantly reduce incidents in the region. Senator Moro urged his fellow Nigerians to embrace safety strategies aligned with international best practices and acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to ensure safety in their daily activities.
Moreover, Senator Moro pledged to garner support from his colleagues in the 10th National Assembly to pass the Occupational Safety and Health Bill into law, recognizing its pivotal role in propelling the country forward. He expressed gratitude to the Head of Service of the Federation for prioritizing the well-being of Nigerian workers by integrating OSH Desk Officers within government establishments. Senator Moro also lauded OSHAssociation's commitment to Nigeria, ensuring that safety advocacy and knowledge reach every corner of the country. He emphasized that enacting the OSH bill would not only promote national development but also complement OSHAssociation's ongoing endeavors in Nigeria.
The partnership between OSHAssociation and QAHE marks a significant milestone in advancing OSH practices in Nigeria. By offering joint programmatic accreditation, these organizations empower institutions and individuals to access comprehensive training and education, adhering to the highest standards of occupational safety and health. Through this collaboration, OSHAssociation and QAHE reaffirm their shared commitment to equipping organizations and individuals in Nigeria with the necessary tools to prioritize safety and foster a culture of proactive safety practices.
As OSHAssociation and QAHE continue their joint efforts to enhance occupational safety and health in Nigeria, they strive to create a lasting impact by equipping professionals with the requisite skills and knowledge, ultimately fostering safer working environments for all.
