The International Association for Quality Assurance in Pre-Tertiary and Higher Education (QAHE) and the American University of Business and Social Sciences (AUBSS) are pleased to announce that Dr. Shamsul bin Mohd Nor has been awarded the Honorary Professorship of Practice (HPoP) in Islamic Education and Qur’anic Pedagogy. The title is conferred jointly by QAHE and AUBSS in recognition of his work as a Qur’anic educator, institutional founder and public teacher of Islamic studies.

Dr. Shamsul holds a Doctor of Philosophy (2015–2019) from the Department of Usuluddin and Philosophy, Faculty of Islamic Studies, National University of Malaysia (UKM), and a Master in Al-Quran and Al-Sunnah (2010–2014) from the same faculty. He completed a Bachelor’s degree in Shariah Islamiah at the University of Al-Aqidah, Jakarta, and earlier Islamic studies at Ismail Aga Camii Medresesi in Fatih, Istanbul.

His practice sits at the meeting point of tahfiz schooling, adult Qur’an literacy and public da‘wah. He is founder and principal of Maahad Tahfiz Al-Muhammadiyah (MTAM) under Yayasan ITMAM, where he has overseen teachers, infrastructure and student welfare, and where students have continued to Al-Azhar University. As Chairman and Principal of Yayasan ITMAM he also directs PUSDA’I as a centre for study, sanad-based instruction and spiritual formation, and supports Arabic-language preparation through the Aleem Centre in Cairo.

In 2000 he developed the Al-Badar Method, a short structured course for learning to read the Qur’an, later used in kindergartens, schools, adult classes, PERKIM and KAFA settings. He is founder and chairman of Al Badar Academy, which has extended that method through community centres combining Qur’an reading, tafsir, da‘wah and syariah guidance. He has served as module advisor for Rumah Ngaji Malaysia and as a strategic partner of Galeri Ilmu in the development of Qur’an and tajwid materials, and as a consultant to Yayasan Restu on hadith programmes.

His public teaching includes work as researcher, host and Qur’an commentator on TV Al-Hijrah’s Quran 114, with several hundred episodes recorded, and as a weekly panelist on IKIM Radio’s Tadabbur. He has spoken in connection with the European Halal Congress and has trained religious teachers through the Irsyad Fatwa Council of Negeri Sembilan and the Army Religious Corps (KAGAT). Through Pearl Mentor he has delivered Islamic human-development programmes for organisations including Celcom, KTMB, Lembaga Zakat Selangor, PETRONAS, Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia and FELDA.

The Honorary Professorship of Practice is an honorary title. It records distinguished professional and educational contribution in the named field. It is not a licensed teaching appointment in Malaysia and does not replace statutory recognition by a Malaysian ministry or professional board.

QAHE and AUBSS congratulate Dr. Shamsul Mohd Nor. Notices will be carried at https://www.qahe.org and https://www.aubss.edu.pl.
