Education:
Dr. Nawi holds a PhD in Manufacturing - Mechanical Engineering from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia, completed in 1996. He also earned an MBA from Abet Open University in Miami, Florida, in 2006, and a Master's in Industrial Engineering from the Institute Technology Bandung (ITB) in Indonesia in 1989. Additionally, he has two Bachelor’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University Jayabaya and the Institute Technology Textile Bandung in Indonesia. He further enhanced his expertise through a Mechanical Engineering course in Fukuoka, Japan, sponsored by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Academic and Teaching Experience:
Dr. Nawi has extensive teaching experience, currently serving as a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering & Maintenance at IMTC in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, since 2022. He has also been the International Representative at DRB HICOM University since 2018 and held senior lecturer positions at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia and other institutions. His academic career includes roles as an assistant lecturer at RMIT in Australia and guest lecturer at various universities across Indonesia.

His areas of expertise encompass fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, engineering mathematics, machine elements, finite elements, heat transfer, kinematics, statics and dynamics, control engineering, and tribology and maintenance. Dr. Nawi’s diverse knowledge base equips him to contribute significantly to both academia and the engineering industry.
Professional Experience:
In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Nawi has held various high-level positions in the engineering sector. He served as the Senior Vice President of PT. Hutahaean Group, overseeing multiple business areas, including oil and gas and construction. Currently, he is a Commissioner at Jagys Engineering and has previously held director and managing director roles in several companies, showcasing his leadership within the industry.
Professional Affiliations:
Dr. Nawi is actively involved in several professional organizations, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Malaysian Tribology Society (MYTRIBOS), and the Association of Professional Petroleum Engineers of Indonesia (IATMI). He is also a member of the Indonesia Engineers Institute and the Management Science & Operations Research Society of Malaysia.
Publications and Conferences:
With a prolific academic output, Dr. Nawi has authored over 30 papers published in various journals and proceedings. He has participated in more than 50 conferences and symposiums related to science and technology and has successfully completed over 20 strategic projects in different industrial sectors.
Leisure Activities:
In his leisure time, Dr. Nawi enjoys a variety of sports, including tennis, swimming, and futsal, and he likes walking. He also has a passion for traveling, singing, and cooking, reflecting his well-rounded personality.
Recent Achievement:
Dr. Ismail Nawi has recently been honored with the Honorary Professorship of Practice (HPoP) in Engineering by Kennedy University and the International Association for Quality Assurance in Pre-Tertiary & Higher Education (QAHE). This recognition underscores his dedication to engineering education and his impactful contributions to the field.
