The International Association for Quality Assurance in Pre-Tertiary and Higher Education (QAHE) is pleased to announce the renewal of institutional accreditation for Afghanistan Open University (AOU).
Afghanistan Open University is a public-driven, nonprofit online institution established to widen access to education for Afghan learners. It offers tuition-free and flexible digital programmes, including secondary pathways for girls, diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, selected master’s programmes, and short courses. Areas of study include computer science and artificial intelligence, business, English, health-related training, and other professional fields. Instruction is delivered through an online learning platform, with support in English, Dari, and Pashto.
Founded by a team of educators and community leaders, including Dr. Hamidullah Afghan, AOU’s stated mission is to make quality learning available regardless of geography, gender, or background, and to support personal and professional development among Afghan students at home and in the diaspora.
The renewal follows a further review of the institution’s quality-assurance arrangements and confirms AOU’s continued status as a QAHE-accredited institution. This renewal is institutional accreditation. It does not, by itself, constitute programmatic accreditation of any individual award title.
QAHE congratulates Afghanistan Open University on the renewal and looks forward to its continued work in accessible online education.
