QAHE and ALECSO Sign Memorandum of Understanding

Jul 24, 2026

QAHE is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO). This agreement reflects the shared commitment of both organisations to advancing quality assurance, educational excellence, and international cooperation across the Arab region and beyond.

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO) is a Tunis-based specialized institution operating under the umbrella of the League of Arab States. Founded on 25 July 1970 in Cairo, Egypt, its core mission is to coordinate and develop activities related to education, culture, and sciences across the Arab world. It functions as a regional equivalent to UNESCO, striving to promote Arab intellectual unity and enhance sustainable development through knowledge-sharing.

The Memorandum of Understanding establishes a framework for strategic collaboration in key areas, including accreditation and quality assurance, mutual recognition of standards, joint promotion of academic events, and the exchange of expertise and best practices. The agreement also provides for opportunities to recognise distinguished academics and professionals through QAHE Honorary Fellowships.

Through this partnership, QAHE and ALECSO aim to strengthen cooperation in higher education and support initiatives that contribute to institutional development and academic quality. The collaboration is intended to foster greater comparability of standards and encourage constructive engagement between the two organisations.

AHE welcomes this important step and looks forward to working closely with ALECSO over the coming years to advance shared goals in quality assurance, educational development, and international academic collaboration
