Prof. Dr. Mohammad Sanad Abu-Darwish



Prof. Dr. Mohammad Sanad Abu-Darwish is a distinguished Jordanian academic and scientist serving as the Director of the Department of Science and Scientific Research at the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).

With a strong academic background in pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacognosy, Prof. Abu-Darwish has built an accomplished career in higher education and scientific research. He previously served as a professor at Al-Balqa Applied University in Jordan, where he held positions at Shoubak University College and Ma’an College. His research has focused on medicinal plants, essential oils, natural products, and their pharmacological properties, contributing to numerous scientific publications and international collaborations.

In his current role at ALECSO, Prof. Abu-Darwish leads efforts to advance scientific research, innovation, and technological development across the Arab world. He has been a key advocate for Open Science policies and practices in the region and has played a central role in the development and promotion of the ALECSO Science Gate — the first regional platform of its kind designed to connect Arab researchers with each other and with the international scientific community.

Prof. Abu-Darwish frequently represents ALECSO in international forums, conferences, and partnerships with organizations such as UNESCO and ICESCO. He actively contributes to shaping the Arab Strategy for Scientific Research, Technology, and Innovation, while working to strengthen research infrastructure, promote knowledge sharing, and enhance scientific cooperation among Arab member states.

Through his leadership at ALECSO and his extensive academic experience, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Sanad Abu-Darwish continues to play a vital role in advancing science, research, and innovation as key drivers of sustainable development in the Arab world.
